What is KWL- Plus technique?
KWL-Plus Technique, by Carr and Ogle (1987), is a good technique to teach students to read and think especially in analytical thinking skills. I bring KWL- Plus technique into my English class for my M.6/2. They are enthusiastic to learn it.
K comes from "What you Know. It means the background knowledge which students
have about the passage they are going to read.
W comes from "What you want to know". Students will predict or ask questions to
guess things they will read.
L is from "What you have learned" After students read the passage, they have the
note-taking.
Plus means Mind Mapping and Summarizing. Students will categorize the information
from L and create the mind mapping. Then they summarize the passage by using the
information from mind mapping.
Next time I will talk about "How to teach your students with KWL-Plus Technique".
